"God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast and when I run, I feel his pleasure."

Eric Liddell in Chariots of Fire

What do you want?

Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. Matthew 20:32

Two blind men are sitting on the roadside, no doubt where they sat each day. Probably they begged as the only way to survive. Then they heard that Jesus was coming and they called out to him: “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us”. (Verse 30)

Jesus stopped and asked: “What do you want me to do for you?” The two men were in in know doubt: “Lord, we want to receive our sight!” (verse 33). They recognized their need and knew that Jesus could heal them.

Imagine you are in their place. Imagine Jesus walks into the room and says: “What do you want me to do for you?”, how would you reply? What would you ask for? Healing from injury? Success in your sport? A new sponsor? A new contract? There is nothing wrong with wanting any of these things – but what would be your priority.

Remember when God asked the new king Solomon, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you” and Solomon asked for wisdom. God replied that since Solomon had not asked for power, wealth, success, honour etc, God would give him wisdom and all these other things as well.

What would you ask for?
