“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Integrity in Life

In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 1 Timothy:8-11

When Paul lists the qualities required to be a church leader (I Timothy 3: 8-12), one might expect that he is looking for great spiritual maturity, teaching gifts, a person who spends hours a day in prayer. In reality he is incredibly practical. Look at what he lists as the requirements:

• worthy of respect
• sincere
• not indulging in much wine
• not pursuing dishonest gain
• not malicious talkers
• temperate
• trustworthy in everything
• faithful in relationships.

Now you may not aspire to be a church leader but what Paul says is still relevant to you. What does God require of you? Integrity in your life – in terms of money, character, sex, how you handle yourself, what you say about others. As you represent Christ in the world of sport today, ask him to help you to live with integrity.
