Goalball wrap-up

The GB Women's quest for a medal ended in cruel defeat to Sweden in the quarter final. Sweden scored less than 10 seconds into extra time and under the “golden goal” format, the game was over.

The game reached half-time 0-0. Anna Sharkey took centre stage eight minutes from the end. In the space of 60 seconds, she conceded a penalty, saved the penalty and scored a goal. Sadly Sweden equalised one minute later.

It had been a brilliant tournament for Anna who scored seven goals.

The GB Men’s team played well but never seemed to get a score which matched their performance as they finished with four defeats and a draw. Michael Sharkey had a good tournament, scoring three goals.
